In Canada’s recent history we have be very blessed with relative peace while wars and rumours of wars have assaulted the nations. Through modern communication the many conflicts focused on can heighten fear and anxiety. How are we as princes and princesses reigning with King Jesus ought to consider this raging of the nations.
First, we can identify their source. James 4:1 teaches us that wars stem from the lusts that war in our members. So, we should expect wars for as Mark 13:7 says, “and when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars be ye not troubled; for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.” Fortunately, we can declare as the psalmist does in Psalm 46:8-10, “Come behold the works of the LORD what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth, he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still and know that I am God. I will be exulted among the heathen; I will be exulted in the earth.” So as long as society is characterized by the lust of the flesh, wars will continue until such a day when the nations submit to the true King of Kings and LORD of Lords.
Don’t shy away from talking about modern war with your children, for history is filled with it much like the Bible. Teach them why war will continue until Jesus breaks the bow and why we ought to be still.
