In the month of November VCCA students have readings on the virtue of compassion and as we just celebrated Thanksgiving last weekend Old Mr. Rabbit’s Thanksgiving Dinner by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey was a great reminder of how satisfying the needs of others can be a thrill to one’s soul. Mr. Rabbit’s “very funny idea” of sharing rather than hoarding will long be remembered by Billy Chipmunk, Molly Mouse, Tommy Chickadee, and their friends Rusty Robin, Chatter-Chee and a “very distinguished looking” young gentleman field mouse. On that day Mr. Rabbit had turned a Thanksgiving dinner into truly a Thanksgiving Day. Talk with your family about how every day should be a Thanksgiving Day accompanied by the thrill of satisfaction through meeting the needs of others… all because God first had compassion on us.
