Who are your heroes? Who are your children’s heroes? When I think of a hero I think about someone I would want to be like. The book of Hebrews does a spectacular job of showing why Jesus is the ultimate hero, high priest, prophet and king. In chapter 11 the author lists more heroes of the faith, people like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Moses and Rahab. We should change the name of the book of Hebrews to Heroes.

As expected our culture doesn’t exult any of the heroes of Hebrews. In order to be the counter cultural people of God, God would have us to have true heroes like those in Hebrews and our modern day ‘Hebrew’ heroes who also, “through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouth of lions; quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong…others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they may obtain a better resurrection.” Hebrews 11:33-35

As a family read about the heroes in the Bible and as individuals read the great Christian biographies. Know that they are heroes because of the Lord Jesus Christ our Redeemer and Friend.
