Though not a hockey enthusiast, I am aware that ‘Elbows Up’ is a term suggesting ill intent. Canada’s new Prime Minister leveraged a ‘so called’ economic crisis into a historic political about face. Running on tough reciprocal tariffs and economic prosperity through improved provincial cooperation and diversified trade partnerships, Prime Minister Carney will have to navigate a variety of conflicting ideologies. Consider Carney’s pledge to make Canada an energy powerhouse which conflicts with saving the planet by way of a green utopia. New oil pipeline discussions inherently come with this tension provincially and federally. A tension exists between the view that man is a parasite on the earth vs man is exhorted by God to have dominion.

Electing a global financier, a ‘numbers man,’ to rescue the Canadian economy has right out of the gate conflicted with the zero accountability, anti-best practice approach of winging it without a budget, probably because a ‘numbers man’ knows that the someday budget is not going to balance itself.

Scripture says there is nothing new under the sun so bet your bottom dollar that governments will leverage a man-made crisis to gain more power and control, resulting in restricted liberty and decreased human flourishing. Expect the judgment and cursing of God when society gives King Jesus the ‘Elbows Up’ treatment.

A friend of mine was taken aback that Colleen and I would choose to travel to the U.S. this summer, given we should have our ‘elbows up.’ Why are Christians not taken aback when the World is in lockstep with the Devil, the true existential threat?
