A pastor whose writing I appreciate is John Piper. He is know for his emphasis on our delighting in God.
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4
John Piper prefers the chief end of man to be to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. I find this emphasis of Mr. Piper to be biblical and complimentary with the aims of Christian classical education. Our emphasis on learning to love that which is good, true and beautiful fits with loving and enjoying Christ the source of that which is good, true and beautiful. At FCS we are LORD willing preparing the next generation to fulfill their ultimate purpose.
Our ultimate purpose, the ultimate purpose of our students is to delight in the Triune God of the Bible. As our pleasure is in God, He is glorified, for as John Piper has said God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him.
If this is all true it compels us to ask some good questions.
What is the source of my greatest pleasure?
Who or what do I delight in the most?
How am I modeling a delight in God for my children?
