In the past I have taken the advice of financial advisors who have recommended buying gold and silver as a hedge against inflation. Currently I am looking into buying Bitcoin as a different hedge against inflation and also as a strategic departure from fiat currency. This brought to mind 1 Corinthians 3:12-13.

“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire;
and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”

Paul was helping babes in Christ who struggled with division and self-aggrandizement. Paul wanted the Corinthian believers to build on the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ with gold, silver and precious stones. He wants them to build with lasting things, valuable things and scarce things. Whether you think fiat currency conforms to the wisdom of this world and thus looses its value and will eventually be burned up like our pride, envying and strife, it is crucial that we be strengthened by the meat of the Word and invest in the lasting, and valuable personal temple building blocks, of faith, hope, and love and not the wisdom of this world which is foolishness with God. As we glory in Christ and are found in Him all things are ours, for we are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.

God has been refining His church and sanctifying His bride by revealing the wood, hay and stubble in our lives. Like me buying silver and gold in exchange for fiat funny money, am I investing in faith, hope and love and trusting that in Christ’s atonement my carnal envying’s, strife and division are burned up in God’s holy wrath?
