What is worse than being drowned alive? Well according to Jesus, it is leading a child astray. Luke 17:2 says, “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea than that he should offend one of these little ones.” Whether “little ones” is referring to children and/or babes in the faith, I believe we should consider this teaching of Jesus as it relates to how we influence the students of FCS. Jesus seems pretty passionate about safe guarding little ones from being led astray or caused to sin and stumble. Knowing that Satan works as an anti-Christ, as one whose delight and purposes are to offend little ones, we should be more aware of the spiritual battle raging for their hearts and minds and what part we are playing.

So is Jesus saying it would be better for a teacher at FCS to be drowned alive than cause a student to doubt God’s grace? Is Jesus saying it would be better for a parent to be rotting at the bottom of the sea than for them to live in a way that ‘something else’ is more important than God? Is Jesus saying it would be better for a church leader to be fish food than for him to influence a ‘little one in the faith’ to trust in something other than the Gospel?

YES! YES! YES!

That is why we pray every day to have Christ centred homes, churches and schools. We can’t control the influence of the mall or the internet, but we can suggest S.C.U.B.A. training.
