“We owe to the Middle Ages the two worst inventions of humanity – romantic love and gunpowder.”

– Andre Maurois

This week I felt inadequate for teaching the students about ‘LOVE’ as a fruit of the Spirit, especially as love like God is too expansive and all-encompassing for my puny fallen mind to rightfully appreciate or comprehend. Fortunately, we have God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to counter the lies about love and renew our minds. In John 3:16 it says, “For God so loved the world … “ How can we possibly begin to understand such love? It makes no human sense, it doesn’t compute that an omnipotent, holy God would choose to love rebellious, unthankful creatures like us. Then, add to this mind-blowing revelation of God’s love for us, Jesus’ command for us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us and you have a recipe for revival.

It is my deep desire for VCCA students to grasp their need of tl1e love of God and their powerlessness to exhibit this love without Him. As born-again Christians we should repent of our anemic love fruit and start loving in such a way that the world envies this Holy Ghost love.

With your family talk about the difference between natural love and the supernatural fruit of the Spirit where all the credit rightfully goes to the supernatural triune God who loves us because He is love and may this fruit of the Spirit be more powerful than gunpowder!
