Do we know what our God given purpose is? Do we know what the purpose of our purpose is? Even if we know what our God given purpose is, practically speaking have we forgotten, for to know and not to do is not to know. Are we like the church of Ephesus who “left thy first love”.
Have you ever heard a student say, “When will I ever need to know this?” or “I don’t like such and such teacher/subject.” If this has happened it is a sign that the Christian home, church and school have failed to pass the baton of purpose. Ask yourself, ask your children what their purpose is. Why are we here? Biblically speaking we are here to glorify God and enjoy Him. The world says our purpose is me, about what I want, I like, I need, what I must do and be, in order to live the good life. This contrasts greatly with taking up our cross and following Jesus and loving the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and our neighbor as our self. Sadly our heart’s affections are not first for the Lord but first for ourselves. We need to reestablish our first love, repent of our idolatry and pray that the Holy Spirit would open our eyes to see the value of “The pearl of great price” and thus find our true purpose. Then we can rightly see all of life through our true purpose. How will I glorify God in ___________? If you were wondering, the blank is all of life, teachers, bosses, work, leisure, school, chores, relationships and chocolate!
