Luke 12:13-21 records Jesus’ parable of the Rich Fool, to address the folly of covetousness. The parable speaks about a man with an extra large harvest who plans to build more barns to hold all the fruit and goods. He thought to himself with his many barns full he could live a life of ease and merriment. At this point in the story you would think Jesus was describing a Freedom 55 or lottery commercial but in the next scene God requires the man’s life. The story is no longer a good Freedom 55 commercial but it is a good commercial for our riches in Christ and where our treasure is, there will our hearts be also. I believe this parable is also a great commercial for classical Christian education, teaching the next generation to be waiting for the Lord with loins girded and lights burning.
