Changing Our Hearts
What shapes our thinking? What will shape the thinking of the next generation? The Bible says the fool has said in his heart there is no God (Ps. 14:1) and that this man holds the truth in unrighteousness (Rom. 1:18). So, at a basic level, man tries to live contrary to the truth they have been given and know. To what extent does this same phenomenon also take place today in the public sphere? Prior to this year, I definitely underestimated the deceiving influence of Satan’s lies on shaping the thinking of society.
A core part of Christian education has been a focus on renewing minds through fostering a biblical world and life view, which should help in exercising discernment in these days of information overload. What has been especially unsettling for me has been the polar opposite views held amongst Christians in areas like morality, government, medicine, freedom and the role of the church. How does it work for Christians starting with the same biblical foundation, but often arriving at opposite ends of the spectrum?
In the past, I would quote Matt. 12:30, “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” To explain the partial nature of education. With all the division which we expect to see in the world, how is it that the church of the living and reigning Lord Jesus Christ is lacking oneness? Have we left our first love as Jesus askes the church in Ephesus?
