As Easter approaches it is fitting to reflect on the redeeming actions of God worked out through His Son’s death and resurrection. One place to look is to hear what Jesus prayed just prior to going to the cross in John 17.
Jesus prayed, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me; for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world…I will declare that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
First Jesus prays that our longings and loneliness be satisfied in beholding Christ’s glory and second Jesus prays for us to have the same love the Father has for Him. Jesus’s work in redemption brings about for us a revelation of His glory. Moses asked to see it and here Jesus prays for us to see it also. Jesus knows that what we need and will benefit us the most is for us to see and be changed by His glory and if that wasn’t enough, to be given the same love of the Father for the Son which the Spirit bestows in our lives, love for the Son by the Father through the Spirit. This Easter reflect on the work of Christ and the eternal purposes for which He died and rose again!
