When any of the four pillars of government, religion, justice, counsel, and treasure, are mainly shaken or weakened, men had need to pray for fair weather.

With an upcoming federal election for our southern neighbours followed by a potential Canadian election there will be a heightened politically focused news cycle in the days ahead. As ambassadors for King Jesus how ought we to view these political endeavors in this ‘already by not yet’ kingdom reign of Christ? As Christians we have the privilege of serving the One who sovereignly sets up and brings down political powers. We know also that behind political powers are spiritual powers, though unseen to us, are impacted though our prayers. As biblically minded citizens we recognize that the Lordship of Christ is all encompassing and that no area of creation is off limits for the Lord’s dominion.

Canada’s official moto carried on our coat of arms is: A Mari usque ad Mare, Latin for ‘From Sea to Sea’, a passage from Psalm 72:8. “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.”

Interestingly when this ‘Dominion from sea to sea’ was first suggested by Samuel Leonard Tilley during the drafting of the British North American Act in 1867, it would not be until 1871 that it would geographically apply when British Columbia joined the Confederation.

As Christians in 2024 we live by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ’s Dominion from sea to sea and from the river unto the ends of the earth. Similar to Canada’s 1867 (sea to sea) though unseen by most, it is already but not yet.
