I was watching the late Charles Colson share about the benefits of classical Christian education where he said, “We can do better by our kids”, with which I totally agree. Then I thought, do we really want to do better by our kids? Do Christian parents who don’t support Christian education really want to do better by their kids? Do Christian parents who do support Christian education for the main goal of preparing their children for a well-compensated job really want to do better by their kids?
If classical Christian education helps develop sold-out Disciples of Christ equipped and engaged to challenge the lies and evil of our fallen culture, do parents really want their children to lead the assault in a culture war? Do families really want their children to be like Jesus who never ceased to testify about the truth of the Gospel?
I know my heart is guilty of playing it safe in regards to sharing the Good News, holding the same stance on evil that Jesus does, hiding my light under a bushel basket. Maybe we are afraid of our child’s true potential because we are afraid of living up to ours. Pray about God’s potential in your life and see if that doesn’t expand the old paradigm you had for your kids, and Lord willing we will really want to do better by our kids from Christ’s perspective.
