Once upon a time when pigs spoke rhyme

And monkeys chewed tobacco,

And the hens took snuff to make them tough,

And ducks went quack, quack, quack, O!

If you are like me, you may not know this poem starts The Three Little Pigs. What follows is a wolf huffing and puffing, eating two pigs, and concluding with the third pig eating the wolf. We can all agree stories like these have been sanitized over time for mass consumption, but I would argue that making stories more palatable has reduced readership. Stories end up losing the strength of their lessons, like wolves are out to get you and shoddy workmanship can be deadly.

Do not be afraid of reading unsanitized childrens stories to your children. You may be surprised with what you both may learn.
