VCCA’s January virtue is Work. Every class during January reads stories and poems highlighting the virtue of work or the results of laziness.
Results and Roses
The man who wants a garden fair,
Or small or very big,
With flowers growing here and there,
Must bend his back and dig.
The things are mighty few on earth
That wishes can attain.
Whate’er we want of any worth
We’ve got to work to gain.
It matters not what goal you seek
Its secret here reposes:
You’ve got to dig from week to week
To get Results or Roses.
– Edgar Guest
“We have too many people who live without working, and we have altogether too many who work without living.”
– Charles R. Brown
The pre-fall virtue of tending Eden (work) is considered today as more of a curse than a blessing. Working for the glory of God is truly what being alive is all about. Talk with your child(ren) how our work can reflect God’s work and how that kind of work, works to glorify Him.
