Little children, never give
Pain to things that feel and live;
Let the gentle robin come
For the crumbs you save at home;
As his meat you throw along
He’ll repay you with a song.
Never hurt the timid hare
Peeping from her green grass lair,
Let her come and sport and play
On the lawn at close of day.
The little lark goes soaring high
To the bright windows of the sky,
Singing as if ‘twere always spring,
And fluttering on an untired wing-
Oh! Let him sing his happy song,
Nor do these gentle creatures wrong.
Our virtue for this month is compassion. Jesus showed compassion to us and we need to show compassion to others. Bullying is a mainstream buzz word in education and our society. If more of us had the virtue of compassion, what a difference that would make in this regard. Picking on the weak, awkward, or just different is often considered ‘cool’ in school rather than considered as defying God’s command to “Be ye kind”. How is it that kindness is often on display more for puppies than people? If children can feed the robin or show kindness to the hare shouldn’t each Spirit filled believer be kind to one another?
