Do you have the same concerns I have for the Church and Christian schools with the growing impact of wokeism? Given the secular world and life view that gave birth to these ideologies, do you find it strange and peculiar that Christians would adopt them? Twenty years ago, words like systemic racism, white privilege, implicit bias, social justice and colonization with their current meanings wasn’t a thing, but today Critical Race Theory, an expression of neo-Marxism, is heightening victimhood and increasing strife and division.
Unfortunately, many Christians have added these newly approved societal virtues which are wrapped up in identity politics to the front of God’s moral law. God’s moral law when empowered by the Spirit of God reveals our desperate need for the atonement of Christ. As Christians we work out our salvation with fear and trembling as new creatures in Christ by Jesus’s supernatural resurrection life’s power.
Contrast that with financial reparations, buying an Orange Shirt and establishing a holiday to commemorate painful past events. This is the government’s path to reconciliation. One problem with woke virtue signaling is that it rejects the heart of the issue, which is our hearts. Apart from the gift of a new heart, strife and division will go from worse to worst. Christians ought to be discerning enough to see the ultimate futility of aspirations of restoration apart from restoration with God. Until we awaken from wokeness, we will experience the nightmare.
