When was the last time you read to your children Little Red-cap or what is commonly known as Little Red Riding Hood? During teacher training before the start of school our teachers looked at how to teach virtue using the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Jesus did this by using parables to powerfully instill spiritual lessons.
When Red Riding Hood promised her mother, I will be sure to do as you say, it reminded me of our staff scripture reading in Exodus 24:3 where all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. And we all know how that ended.
If the right questions are asked, even little ones can see the parallels with the wolf and the serpent in the garden, the huntsman and Jesus and picking flowers for grandmother, with the attractiveness of sin.
Many children’s stories which have stood the test of time have done so because they reflect the ultimate redemptive story of the Bible. Are you delighting in God’s redemptive story that’s hidden in plain sight and are you awakening your children to the wonder and glory that they are real life characters in it?
