Charles H. Spurgeon’s November 5th devotional referencing Isaiah 54:17a ‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper,’ highlighted three world shaping historical events where the Antichrist of the past experienced the rejoinder of God on November 5th. The destruction of the Spanish Armada in 1588, the foiled Gunpower Plot of 1605 and the landing of King William III at Torbey in 1688. As I sit to write this it is unclear if we will witness a similar rejoinder of God this November 5th , 2024 towards the Antichrist of our day with regards our neighbour’s elections to the South.
It is clear that Charles H. Spurgeon considered popery to be antichrist in the past and during his day, but what do Christians consider to be antichrist of our day? Do we have the perspective that “No weapon formed against us shall prosper?” Do the weapons formed against us entail political apparatuses, the deep state, or even individual politicians and the powers behind them?
In the providence of God, President Donald Trump survived multiple assassination attempts. We recognize that God sets up and brings down kingdoms according to His will and that He can direct the heart of the king as the rivers of water so we can rest assured come what may on this November 5th, no weapon formed against you will prosper!
As pastor James Coates reminded those at our church Sunday night from Romans 8:28a, ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,’ praise be to God that all things mean all things, good or bad, righteous or sinful, harmony or factions. So, rest in the truth that nothing is excluded from all things.
