VCCA seeks to be a singing school. We sing at the beginning and end of the day. At school students sing History Timeline songs as well as Skip Counting songs. During this Advent season we have sung various hymns to help us reflect on the marvelous incarnation of Christ. Martin Luther’s From Heaven I Come to You is a Christmas Hymn from our new student Hymnal. The last stanza says;
Welcome to earth, Thou noble Guest
Through whom the sinful world is blest!
In my distress Thou com’st to me;
What thanks shall I return to Thee?
In answering the question, what thanks shall I return to Thee, I encourage you to have homes that also seek to be singing homes just as I assume you attend a church that is a singing church. Consider investing in some hymnals which you can sing together from as a family. It may seem weird at first but that’s ok for since when has normal worked?
When your child(ren) ask, “Why are we singing together at home?” you can answer with; “this is one way we can return thanks to Thee (God).” Singing praises to God as a family will direct your focus on Who it rightfully belongs, especially in a world hell-bent on directing our attention and ultimately our worship where it doesn’t.
