I wrote a thank-you note to a supporter of the school wishing her well during these unprecedented times. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 1:9, The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done; and there is no new thing under the sun. Even though there is nothing new under the sun, from my sheltered and limited experience, unprecedented seemed like a good word to use.
Contrast with me if you will, the mass release of criminals from prison then turning around and imprisoning pastors who shepherd their flock and business owners who opened their businesses. Do you remember when the Prime minister of Canada was honoured for joining a crowded outdoor protest then later we arrest and charge a man for playing outdoor hockey? Can you ever recall a time that it was unlawful for children to sing at school and doing so on the virtue scale is comparable with the murder of Grandma or Grampa? Can you ever remember when health authorities forced child isolation for 14 days justified by contract tracing precautions?
Even though I might use the word unprecedented, I need to remember that power still corrupts and absolute power still corrupts absolutely and that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer. 17:9) So keeping all this in perspective we will not likely know all the reasons for these unprecedented times this side of heaven but we can know the motives of the heart are not new and that all of this is part of Gods intricate and beautiful tapestry of History for the display of His glory as He prepares His Bride for the wedding feast of the Lamb.
